Gyukatsu Bali: The Japanese Cutlet That’s Stealing Our Burger Fans
April 23, 2026

Gyukatsu sounds fancy.
Like something a samurai would eat after a long day of… samurai-ing.
But let’s be honest….. it’s basically Japan looking at a steak and going, “You know what this needs? A crispy jacket.”
And just like that, gyukatsu was born.
Back in the Meiji period, Japan started experimenting with Western food.
Someone, probably a genius or a hungry legend, decided to coat beef in breadcrumbs and deep fry it.
Fast forward to the Taisho period, and fried cutlets were everywhere – pork, beef, you name it.
Pork won the popularity contest (hello tonkatsu), but beef stayed in the game…
Then boom…. gyukatsu came back, and this time, it wasn’t messing around.
What Makes Gyukatsu Dangerous (In a Good Way)
Picture this.
A thick slab of beef. Proper steak energy.
It gets coated in breadcrumbs, lightly fried till golden and crispy on the outside… but still juicy and pink on the inside.
Medium rare. The way beef wants to be remembered.
Slice it up, dip it in sauce, add a bit of wasabi, maybe some soy…
Suddenly you’re not just eating. You’re experimenting.
You’re a scientist. A delicious scientist.
Bali Took It Personally
Now here’s where things get interesting.
Because while Japan perfected it, Bali decided to have a bit of fun with it.
At Dod’s Burger x MeatCraft, we looked at gyukatsu and thought….“Good. But what if we make it ridiculous?”
So we took premium Aussie ribeye – marbled like a luxury marble floor in a billionaire’s bathroom – and turned it into gyukatsu.
Not just any gyukatsu. The kind where you take a bite and pause for a second.

Gyukatsu Bali – Dod’s Burger x MeatCraft
Not because you’re confused.
But because your brain is trying to process how something can be crispy, juicy, buttery, and slightly life-changing at the same time.
And yeah, we still do our famous burgers. Big, juicy, no-nonsense.
The Assassin
And yeah, we still do our famous burgers. Big, juicy, no-nonsense.
But the gyukatsu? That’s the quiet assassin on the menu.
Comes in looking all neat and composed… then absolutely steals the show.
So if you’re in Bali and feeling a bit adventurous… Skip the usual.
Come try the dish that Japan perfected…
And we gave a Bali attitude.
Because sometimes, the best meals are the ones that surprise you halfway through the first bite 🙂
